Summer: The Best Time to Get Insulated
It’s not exactly a secret: it’s hot outside. The breeze is balmy and the sun is shining. Even so, we regret to remind reader that it won’t stay this way forever. In a few months, the seasons will change again and one day we’ll wake up to a thin glaze of frost over the grass.
We at Spartan Insulation don’t pretend to offer a solution to the four seasons. However, we do provide methods of keeping the frost out on your front lawn and the summer warmth inside your home. In today’s blog post, we’ll be going over how to prepare your home for the season’s change before it happens, so you can stay warm and toasty throughout the entire year.
1. Get Spray Foam Insulation for the Home or Office
There’s no two ways about it—put simply, spray foam insulation is our bread and butter. It’s also one of the most effective ways to insulate your home. Spray foam insulation prevents air and moisture from creeping in to your home year-round, as well as keeping pollen and dust out (for those with allergies). Additionally, it reinforces the strength of your building’s structure, which helps mitigate the creaks, aches, and pains, that come with the expansion and shrinkage of building material during the swings of hot and cold.
2. Seal Doors and Windows with Weather Stripping
This is something you can do both on your own and on the cheap. If you’re willing to spend the $50-$100 on quality weather stripping for your doors and windows, you can slash the transfer of heat and cold in your home. Additionally, weather stripping is effective at preventing insects from making their way into your home through the same small openings that outdoor temperatures steal their way through.
We particularly recommend insulating any sliding glass doors you may have in your home. While glass is great for allowing natural lighting and heat in the summer, it’s also a notoriously bad insulator. Targeting sliding glass doors and any large windows you may have, therefore, stands to improve your home’s insulation by the highest margin.
