When to Get Your Insulation Replaced

With the New Year around the corner, it’s time to reflect on the many changes in our lives since the start of 2024. While in some ways it may feel like 2024 only began not too long ago, in others it may feel like it’s been a long time.

Here’s a question: in what year did you get the insulation done for your home or business? If you’re not sure, then that likely means its time to figure out how your home’s insulation is holding up.

Today, we’re highlighting the different ways you can tell that it’s time to get new insulation.

How to Tell You Need New Insulation

Some of the signs that you need new insulation should be pretty obvious, but some are surprisingly covert. Let’s break these signs down:

The Obvious Signs. The obvious signs that you may need new insulation are ones that you may be able to guess: uneven temperatures around the house, drafty rooms, and unusually high energy bills. That said, we recommend investigating your other sources of heating and cooling (such as your furnace or and AC unit) to se if they might be contributing to the problem, as well.

The Less-Obvious Signs. Other signs that your insulation needs to be replaced may not be noticeable until you think about them. If your seasonal allergies are particularly bad this year, you may want to ask yourself: is it the season that’s causing this, or your insulation not keeping allergens out?

On top of bad allergies, other indications that your insulation is going bad is if you notice and increase in pests (such as mice) as well as tears or gaps in the insulation.

Choosing Insulation that’s Right for You

Now that we’ve discussed some of the signs to watch out for, we wanted to do a brief overview of the different types of insulation services you may want to consider.

Blown In Insulation. Blown in insulation is ideal for open spaces that you don’t frequent often, such as attics, since it has a high R-Value and is easy to apply. However, ti’s quite messy, so it should only be used in places visitors won’t frequent.

Spray Foam Insulation. A personal favorite of ours, spray foam insulation has it all: airtight sealing, a high R-Value, mold resistance—it even reinforces the structural supports of your home.

Fiberglass Insulation. Fiberglass insulation is a tried, true, and affordable insulation for those looking to get their building up to code on a budget.
